Sigiriya is the unofficial eighth wonder of the world. An unbelievably luxury city created and constructed on the top of a massive rock with a height close to 400m, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress proudly displays the unbeatable marvels of the Sri Lankans’ technical knowhow. Although believed to be constructed by King Kasyapa who reigned from 477-495 AD, fresh evidence suggest the original fortress was an idea of King Ravana, the same king mentioned in the Epic of Ramayana. Take a note of all the wonders – the amazing water features including belowground hydraulic systems, some of which operate to this day, landscaped gardens, and the defensive structures built to face enemy attacks.
