Known for its well-developed beaches, Tangalle is a popular coastal destination among the local and foreign visitors alike. Dotted along the cove are the beach huts, villas and more upscale accommodation options to choose from. In addition to the attractive beach, its waves are considered to be ideal for first time surfers. Tangalle is also popular for other visiting points such as the blowhole “Hummanaya”, “Mulkirigala”, the magnificent rock temple, Rekawa turtle conservation (take a trip to the beach during the midnight to observe mother turtles laying eggs), traditional stilt fishing, and Ussangoda the mysterious plateau containing red soil. Legend is that Ussangoda was the runaway for King Ravana’s “Vimana” or aero plane.
