Sri Lanka is a tropical country with a hot and humid weather pattern. This has led to the formation of many forests, in every corner of the island. From UNESCO world heritages such as the Sinharaja forest reserve and leopard country, Yala, to Minneriya where world’s largest known elephant gathering takes place, this island is a haven for wildlife. Not just the mammals, but also birds, butterflies, reptiles, insects and more call this land home. Bundala bird reserve is named a biosphere reserve by UNESCO and it attracts close to 200 bird species who fly down from the harsh Northern winters. Sinharaja is home to 50% endemic species of all animal types. Wilpattu is the largest reserve in Sri Lanka covering an area of 1,317 km². Horton Plains, a misty wonderland, nurtures 21 bird species that are endemic to Sri Lanka. The list goes on and on; you have to see it with your own eyes to believe the unbelievable.
